Silver for Dhanteras. The first lamp of the festival.
Dhanteras opens the five days of Diwali. Tradition asks for new silver on this day — an idol, a candle holder, a puja piece. Every piece here is silver-plated and handcrafted in our Delhi NCR studio.
Why silver, on this day.
Dhanvantari, the physician of the gods, emerged from the ocean of milk on the thirteenth day of the dark fortnight, carrying the pot of amrita in his hands. That vessel was silver. The tradition of buying silver on Dhanteras remembers that moment — when what was precious was also what healed.
Wealth
Not just money — dhana in the Vedic sense means all forms of abundance. Gold for stored value, silver for daily auspiciousness.
The thirteenth day
The thirteenth tithi of Krishna Paksha in Kartik. Astronomy fixes the muhurat; tradition fixes what you bring home.
The offering
Silver is placed on the puja thali before Lakshmi is invoked. It is both the offering and the vessel that holds it.
Four essentials for the thali.

Ganesha Shankh with Stand
Silver-plated Ganesha from the statement pieces. Detailed hand-finishing with a patina that deepens over time. A centrepiece for the Dhanteras puja shelf.

Ganesha Shankh with Stand
A silver-plated Ganesha seated on a shankh with a sturdy stand. Sized for the home mandir shelf — a blessing piece that anchors the Dhanteras thali.

Mor Chandni Candle Holder
A peacock-motif candle holder in silver-plated brass, polished by hand. Lights the threshold on Dhanteras evening — steady, luminous, made to last.

Tirupati Balaji Idol
Silver-plated Lakshmi Ji from the statement range. Hand-finished with fine detail work. Placed on the puja thali on Dhanteras to welcome abundance into the home.

From dawn to diya.
Snaan & setup
Cleanse the silver with raw milk and turmeric water. Arrange the puja thaal with akshat, fresh flowers and a candle holder.
Purchase muhurat
Tradition favours late morning for buying silver. Place new pieces on red cloth facing east until evening puja.
Diya preparation
Place candle holders at the threshold and the mandir. Prepare five wicks. Light the first one before sunset.
Lakshmi puja
Place the silver idols on the puja thaal. Offer sweets and flowers with the right hand. Chant the Lakshmi Ashtottara. Distribute prasad.

“My grandmother bought silver every Dhanteras without fail — even in the years we couldn't afford much. A single piece. She said the metal remembers the intention. I still have her first piece. It weighs almost nothing. It holds everything.”
Keeping silver bright.
Storage
Wrap each piece in acid-free tissue or a soft cotton cloth. Store in an airtight pouch away from moisture. Silica gel sachets help in humid climates.
Cleaning
Wipe with a dry microfibre cloth after puja. For tarnish, use a paste of baking soda and water, rinse in lukewarm water, pat dry immediately.
What to avoid
Never use steel wool or abrasive cleaners. Avoid prolonged contact with perfume, sindoor, or lemon. Chlorine in tap water accelerates tarnish — use filtered water to rinse.
Everything you need to know before Dhanteras.
Are the pieces solid silver?
No — and we would rather say so plainly. Every Nazarana piece is silver-plated over a base metal. We do not sell solid or hallmarked silver. Dimensions and piece weight are confirmed in writing before you order.
How is pricing tied to the silver rate?
We quote against the day’s IBJA spot price plus making charges. Once you confirm, the quote locks for 14 days. Weight is net silver — packaging is excluded from the calculation.
Can I request a custom piece?
Yes. We can work with you on bespoke pieces from our existing moulds. Custom finishes or inscriptions take 7 additional days. Minimum order is one piece.
What if I want to gift silver to multiple families?
We offer split-dispatch to up to 20 addresses within NCR at no extra cost. Pan-India shipping is available via insured courier — allow 4–7 days. Each piece arrives in its own gift box with a handwritten note.
