Dhanteras opens the five days of Diwali. Tradition asks for new silver on this day — a coin, a vessel, a diya. Every piece here is BIS-hallmarked, weight-transparent, and handcrafted in our Delhi NCR studio.
Dhanvantari, the physician of the gods, emerged from the ocean of milk on the thirteenth day of the dark fortnight, carrying the pot of amrita in his hands. That vessel was silver. The tradition of buying silver on Dhanteras remembers that moment — when what was precious was also what healed.
Not just money — dhana in the Vedic sense means all forms of abundance. Gold for stored value, silver for daily auspiciousness.
The thirteenth tithi of Krishna Paksha in Kartik. Astronomy fixes the muhurat; tradition fixes what you bring home.
Silver is placed on the puja thali before Lakshmi is invoked. It is both the offering and the vessel that holds it.

Cleanse the silver with raw milk and turmeric water. Arrange the thali: kumkum, akshat, diya, fresh flowers.
Tradition favours late morning for buying silver. Place new pieces on red cloth facing east until evening puja.
Fill silver diyas with sesame oil or ghee. Prepare five wicks. Light one at the threshold before sunset.
Place Lakshmi-Ganesh pair on the thali. Offer silver coins with the right hand. Chant the Lakshmi Ashtottara. Distribute prasad.
“My grandmother bought silver every Dhanteras without fail — even in the years we couldn't afford much. A single coin. She said the metal remembers the intention. I still have her first coin. It weighs almost nothing. It holds everything.”
Wrap each piece in acid-free tissue or a soft cotton cloth. Store in an airtight pouch away from moisture. Silica gel sachets help in humid climates.
Wipe with a dry microfibre cloth after puja. For tarnish, use a paste of baking soda and water, rinse in lukewarm water, pat dry immediately.
Never use steel wool or abrasive cleaners. Avoid prolonged contact with perfume, sindoor, or lemon. Chlorine in tap water accelerates tarnish — use filtered water to rinse.
Every 999 piece ships with a BIS hallmark stamped by an assaying centre. 925 pieces carry the standard sterling mark. Silver-plated items are stamped SP at the base with weight disclosure on the certificate.
