When in the Indian year do you give silver?

Almost every North-Indian occasion has a silver gift that belongs to it — some fixed to the lunar calendar, most set by a family's own muhurat. The table below is the whole year on one page: the occasion, what silver suits it, a rough weight to budget against, the order quantity, and when to place the order so the piece arrives in time.

We have laid it out in the order it actually arrives — Karwa Chauth first on 29 October 2026, then the Diwali cluster of Dhanteras on 6 November and Diwali itself on 8 November, then the life-cycle occasions that can fall in any month, the winter and spring wedding season, and finally Akshaya Tritiya, which rolls the year over into the next spring.

Two things are worth reading off that table straight away. The first is how tightly the autumn packs together: Karwa Chauth, Dhanteras and Diwali land inside eleven days, which is why a single order placed in mid-October usually has to carry all three. 03 · The occasions

What silver suits each occasion, and how much does it weigh?

The autumn festivals carry the heaviest volume. For Karwa Chauth on 29 October 2026 the traditional gift is the ritual set itself — a silver thali, a karwa and a chalni, 150 to 400 grams together — often with a small 10 to 20 gram coin tucked into the sargi. For Dhanteras on 6 November, a hallmarked Lakshmi-Ganesh coin of 10 to 50 grams or a small idol of 100 to 500 grams is the piece to buy, because the day itself is about bringing new silver into the home. Diwali on 8 November is where corporate gifting concentrates: diya sets, coins and dry-fruit boxes, ordered from a single piece upward.

The life-cycle occasions are quieter and more personal. Griha Pravesh asks for a Lakshmi-Ganesh idol, a kalash, or an engraved nameplate — pure 999 for the idol so it holds its value. Annaprashan, the first-rice ceremony at six to eight months, is marked with a silver bowl, spoon and glass set of 50 to 150 grams. Godh Bharai, the baby shower in the seventh or eighth month, suits a rattle, a small coin, or a pair of anklets, 30 to 120 grams. None of these carries a bulk minimum — a single piece, from ₹1,500, is the whole gift.

Then the seasons. The wedding season runs across winter (November to February) and returns in spring (April to May); its signature order is the return gift — coins and bowls of 20 to 60 grams, taken in runs of any size — alongside larger trousseau idols of 200 to 800 grams. And Akshaya Tritiya, in April or May 2027, closes the loop: one of the year's most auspicious days to buy silver, best met with pure 999 coins, small bars and compact idols.

04 · Quantity

Which occasions need a bulk order, and which need one piece?

This is the question that decides whether you are placing a personal order or a bulk one, and the calendar splits cleanly in two. The single-family occasions — a Karwa Chauth thali, a Griha Pravesh idol, an Annaprashan bowl, a Godh Bharai rattle — are single-piece orders.
