The 25th wedding anniversary is the silver jubilee everywhere in the world. The Victorian anniversary tradition assigned silver to the 25-year mark because silver is the metal that ages without losing its core — it darkens at the edges, it patinates, but it does not corrode. The metaphor is direct: twenty-five years of marriage are not new and shining; they are worn-in, tested, and still intact.
The Indian household keeps the tradition with two additions. First, the silver is engraved — with the wedding date, the couple's names in Roman or Devanagari, and very often a Sanskrit shloka chosen by the family priest. Second, the silver is gifted in tiers: the children commission one piece, the siblings commission another, the friends gift a third. By the evening of the silver jubilee party, the dining table carries five or six silver pieces, each engraved to the same date.
We work this brief weekly. Our standard 25th-anniversary commission is an 8-inch engraved platter in 925 silver for the children to gift, paired with a 100g numbered jubilee coin in 999 silver for the siblings. The matriarch tier — reserved for the couple themselves to commission for each other — is a cast 999 sculpted vessel.
The dated keepsake, the engraved platter, the numbered coin, and the matriarch-tier cast vessel. Each photographed against its weight slip.

For the husband's desk. Hand-engraved with the date and the jubilee year on the top face.
Holds the original wedding portrait. The first piece the children pool to commission.
Cast in 999 silver. Lakshmi obverse, the couple's monogram and date on the reverse.
The matriarch-tier gift. Hand-raised vessel for the puja shelf — a once-in-a-generation piece.
For the dining table. Engraved with the wedding date on the base.
Most silver jubilees gather pieces from all three tiers — friends gift the photo frame, children commission the platter, and the parents pool for the matriarch-tier cast vessel.
Silver photo frame with the wedding portrait, small engraved trays, dated paperweights. The right register for college friends, cousins, and the wider social circle attending the silver jubilee party.
Substantial engraved platters, numbered jubilee coins, paired candle holders. The considered tier — chosen by the couple's children for parents, or by siblings between themselves. 925 or 999 silver depending on weight.
Cast 999 silver — portrait plates, sculpted vessels, hand-raised statement pieces. The once-in-a-generation gift commissioned by the entire family pooled together. 6 to 10 weeks lead time.
“Our children commissioned a platter with the wedding date engraved in Devanagari and our names in script around the rim. My mother gave my husband his grandfather's silver pocket-watch the same evening. Three pieces, three generations, one jubilee.”

Silver. The 25th wedding anniversary is universally called the silver jubilee — silver became the canonical 25-year material in Victorian-era anniversary lists and was adopted into Indian gifting in the early 20th century. The standard gift is a substantial piece of pure silver — engraved with the couple's names, the wedding date, and the jubilee year.
The four canonical silver jubilee gifts are an engraved silver platter (the centrepiece, often 8–10 inches), a dated silver paperweight (the desk keepsake), a silver photo frame with the wedding portrait, and a numbered 100g jubilee coin. Most Indian families gift one piece per side of the family — the parents-in-law one, the siblings the other.
Silver jubilee gifts cluster in three bands. For close friends and cousins, ₹6,500–₹12,000 buys an engraved photo frame or small platter. For the couple's children and siblings, ₹18,000–₹35,000 buys a substantial engraved platter or numbered jubilee coin. For parents-in-law and the matriarch tier, ₹45,000+ commissions a cast 999 silver piece — a portrait plate or a sculpted vessel.
